Sidekick LX Disassembly

This guide shows you how to take apart your Sidekick LX. This can be useful if you plan to paint it or make some repairs. In my case it helped me clean spilled soda that made the keys stick.

NOTE: Disassembling your device will void your warranty, make sure you realize this before attempting anything. I am not responsible for any damages to your device that disassembly may cause.

Make sure you turn your device off and then remove your battery cover, battery, SIM card, and miniSD card.

Remove the eight screws on the back of the device using a T-6 Torx screwdriver. Be aware that the two front side pieces may become loose and you don't want to lose your trackball.

If the side pieces did not come loose already carefully pry them up off of the device with your fingers.

Once the side pieces are off you should be able to just take off the trackball, making sure you don't lose it while doing so. The screen can be removed by leaving it in the open position and then tilting it to the left so that the two screws are exposed. Once these screws are removed you can just pull the screen off of the main board and set it aside.

Once the screen and trackball are out of the way you should be able to pull up on the front housing and separate it from the rest of the device.

While performing this step be very careful not to break the chrome trim as it is very flimsy. Flip the front housing face down and carefully try to pull the chrome trim off of the housing. The top right corner seemed to give me some trouble at first so I suggest trying to start there.

To separate the two pieces you need to remove the small black phillips head screw and carefully pry the ribbon cable (for the camera flash I believe) off of the main board. There is a small clip at the bottom so pry up the top part of the board first.

After following this guide you should have all the main components of the device taken apart. If you need to take apart the screen you can remove the phillips head screws on the back and go from there. If you need to remove the dpad/speaker I believe there are a few phillips head screws there as well. After these steps everything else should be fairly easy.
