Here's a simple and fun Father's day project for the kids to do.
And this is my 50th Instructable, so I feel like a little CELEBRATION!!!

Shrunken Heads lapel Pin (necklace, earrings keychain or magnets!)
Hilarious little heads turned into quirky jewelry!  :)

You'll need some excited kids or you'll need to be really excited yourself!
(I'll admit, I was so excited, the kids didn't get to help at all...they just watched them bake in the oven...)

Other supplies:
Shrink plastic
Computer/printer
photos/editing software
scissors
oven
baking sheet
Your choice of: pin back, lapel pin, jump ring, keychain, magnets, earring hooks...etc.

Head Shot!

First we got some headshots of each of the kids.
We used photoshop and the lasso tool to select just the heads.
You could use free software like pixlr.

Create a page that is the same size as your shrink plastic and arrange the heads accordingly.
I overlapped my 3 kiddo's heads for the lapel pin.

Print on Plastic!

Then we printed out a copy on regular print paper.
I could judge the size and make sure the images fit on the plastic.

Then printed them out on shrinky dink or shrink plastic...
(wow...can you say dust?)
Print so the ink prints on the rough side of the plastic...the color will stick to the rough side.

Cut It Out!

Then cut them out.
Leave a place for a large hole if you are making
a necklace, earrings or a keychain...or something else that needs to hook on...

The hole needs to be slightly larger than a large hole punch...so I did it about 4 times make a subtle clover shape.

Shrink Those Heads!

Place them rough side up on a cookie sheet...bake at 350* for
1 to 5 minutes...you gotta watch them close because it goes fast!

They will curl up like a bowl...but don't panic!

They will reflatten...that means they are ready!  Pull them out of the oven and let them cool about 5 minutes.

Here's the before and after so you can see how much it shrinks!
(they say about 200% shrinkage)

Finishing Touches!

Add a pin back or a jump ring or a magnet!  We just glued it on with some E6000...
shows through a little bit, but no biggy.

There are lots of possibilities for these little Shrunken heads!
The shiny plastic makes glare and is therefore hard to photograph...but you get the idea!

Nothing quite as cool as a necklace with your own head on it!

Hope you enjoyed our fabulously silly Father's day craft!
