A shopping cart turned into a Go Kart.

Supplies

Tools:

  1. Hacksaw
  2. Wrench
  3. Hammer
  4. Allen Wrenches

Supplies:

  1. Shopping cart
  2. Engine
  3. Axle
  4. Wheels
  5. Clutch
  6. Sprocket
  7. Wheel assembly
  8. Hardware (Nuts & Bolts)

Cutting the Shopping Cart Down

Untitled.png

Our first step is to cut down the shopping cart to prepare it for use.

Use a hacksaw to cut down the 4 pillars that connect the Cart to the Under tray and Wheels

Using the Under Tray

Using the leftover under tray we will cut it in half and bolt it to the opposing sides of the cart. This will make up the engine bay and the front wheel assembly.

Attaching the Rear Axle

Attaching the axle hubs to the engine tray area. Along with that we will install the axle.

Attaching the Engine to the Engine Bay

In this step we will attach the engine to the Engine Bay. This is the hardest part because you want to balance the engine perfectly so your Kart won't lean in the direction more weight is on. After measuring and calculating the weight distribution we will find a safe place to plant the engine down using the two most sturdy rows of the metal. Use Nuts and Bolts to attach it.

Add the Rear Wheels

We will use the wheel hubs to attach the wheels to the live axle. Screw the wheel hubs into the rear axle and then screw the wheels into the wheel hub.

Creating the Steering Hub

Creating the steering hub is very easy because your not creating much your just attaching things together so you just need nuts and bolts.

Odds and Ends

Our last step is to install the random bits. For example:

  1. Pedals
  2. Breaks
  3. Sprocket
  4. Chain
  5. Gas lever

Each are simple and not complex so I won't go into detail but they are very necessary.

If detail is required I suggest you watch the full video I've linked above because it is very detailed with these smaller things and visuals always help form a better picture.
