This is a short instructables about building this shoe shelf out of a wine box and some aluminium pipes.

Step 1: Tools and Material Needed

For this shoe shelf you only need a few hand tools and a drill.

Tools:

  • hammer, (and or mallet)
  • metall saw (and or a hand guided miter saw)
  • pliers
  • a chisel might be usefull
  • charpener for pencils
  • drill, with a 10mm drillbit

Materials:

  • reclaimed wood (in this case an old wine box)
  • wood glue
  • wooden dowels (diameter 10mm)
  • aluminium pipes (outside diameter 12mm, inside diameter 10mm)
  • some sandpaper can used too

Step 2: Take the Box Appart

Take the wine box appart using the hand tools mentioned before. Try not to split the wood bars. This step can take some time, afterwards i would recommend some cleaning ;-)

Step 3: Align the Wooden Bars and Glue Them

In this case i not had to cut the wooden bars, because they had the right length.

  • vertical bar length = 350mm
  • horizontal bar length = 300mm
  • distance between top vertical bar (center) and buttom vertical bar (center) = 170mm

with these measurements you can simply get your shoes out.

Step 4: Drill the Pocket Hols

Drill the pocket hols with a drill (10mm diameter), take care not to drill completly through the material.

Drill 4 holes on the top verical bar and 4 holes on the buttom vertical bar, using a distance between each hole of approxiametly 75mm.

After drilling the holes you can glue the dowels into the pocket holes, you can take a mallet to hammer down the dowels.

Step 5: Cutting the Aluminium Pipes

Cut 8 aluminium pipes to a length of 650 mm. With this length you can store 3 pair of shoes per level.

I used a hand guided miter saw, but you can also use a normal metall handsaw or even a jig saw.

Step 6: Assemble All Together

After all the glue is dried, you can put the aluminium pipes on the dowels. For this you should use a mallet, because sometimes it can be a little hard to get them on. Start with one side to add all 8 pipes. Then add the other side. While hammering try to keep the everything at level, so i could not jam.

Step 7: Add Some Shoes

Now its ready to use and you can add some of your shoes.
