A simple but fun and productive shirt folding machine made of cardboard.

Great for a quick yet fun project with children or for the lazy among us 😉

Supplies

  • Large cardboard box
  • Knife or scissors
  • Ruler
  • Marking ink
  • Duct tape

On the first step we will mark and cut our first folded shirt form rectangle out of 6.

Take a folded shirt at the wanted size and mark it's edges as a rectangle on the cardboard with your marker ink, then cut the cardboard over your markings to get a stand-alone folded shirt size cardboard rectangle.

Cut 5 More Rectagles

Cut 5 more cardboard rectangles at the same dimensions as the first one (use it as a mold for the other cardboard rectangles).

At the end of this stage you'll have 6 folded shirt sizes cardboard rectangles, all the same.

Time to Assemble

Arrange the cardboard rectangles in 2 rows, 3 columns each.

Use the duct tape to connect the rectangles as follows:

  • Connect the two rectangles of each column together
  • Connect the rectangles of the firs row together

Use the images to check the result.

It's time to check how you did by trying your folding machine!

  1. Place a shirt on the folder, so that the back of the shirt is facing up (towards you).
  2. Fold the right column to the middle column and then bring it back to it's place.
  3. Fold the left column to the middle column and then bring it back to it's place.
  4. On this stage you'll have the shirt positioned only on the middle column, now take the middle rectangle on the second row and fold it up towards the first row, and then bring it back to it's place.

Ta da! Your shirt will be perfectly folded (facing down) on the middle rectangle on the first row!
