Here is how to make a very sexy and clean looking Ipod Touch dock that can take up your extra cables that uses nothing but the packaging the ipod came with.

This only works with generation two touches that come in the hard plastic shell.

You'll need

  • The Clear hard shell
  • The USB cable
  • The plastic cradle adapter
  • Sand Paper
  • Marker and masking tape
  • Hot glue
  • A drill/drill press or Dremel

Mark Where You Want to Cut and Make the Hole

First tape the plastic cradle to where you want it to sit on the case and mark where you are going to cut it.

Leave at least 2 mm around the edge so that the cradle will have something to sit on when you cut the hole

I used a Drill press to punch holes around the corners to keep them a bit round. I then used a dremel to cut the straight edges and then grind the hole into shape

Cut a Hole for the USB Cable

Make a notch in the second half o the shell where you want the USB to go in.

Glue the Plastic Cradle Into the Hole

Place the Cradle in the hole. Tape it so it stays in place and carefully hot glue around the edges so it doesn't show on the other side.

Sand the Bottom of the Cradle

You'll need to take 2mm of the bottom of the cradle so that the plug can go deep enough into the touch to connect properly

Do a test to make sure that the plug does deep enough.

Glue the USB Cable to the Cradle

Find the angle that the Ipod touch sits back at and carefully glue the USB cable to the cradle.

Be vary careful to not get any glue onto the plug or onto the ipod, as glue will get into the port and ruin your ipod

Assemble and Enjoy

You can coil your cable inside the box to reduce unwanted wires.

If you have trouble keeping it closed try to bend the cable that comes out of the ipod end plug so that it doesn't push against the other shell and it should stay shut.

I used the Ipod desk mat to prevent slipping.

Enjoy your sleek and sexy ipod dock that cost you absolutely nothing!
