Sewing Comfortable Trousers-Pants
For this project you will need:
- 2 m of stretchy cotton fabric
- Sewing machine
- 3cm wide rubber band
- Thread (for spool and bobbin)
- 30 A4 pieces of paper
- A printer
- A computer
- Tape
- Measuring tape
- Fabric scissors
- Seam ripper
- A safety needle
- Chalk pen
- Iron
- Ironing board
- Clips (optional)
Printing the Pattern
- Go to the website: https://so-sew-easy.com/unisex-scrubs-pants-patter... and follow the instruction to print out the pattern.
- Take the pattern and lay the paper on the floor like on the image above.
Cutting the Pattern
- Tape the paper together on the connecting sides.
- Used scissors to cut on the black outline, on the size that you want the pants to be.
Cutting the Fabric
- Take the fabric and place it spread out on the floor.
- Place the pattern on top of it and trace it with the chalk pen.
- After you traced all pieces use the fabric scissors to cut each piece out.
- Remember to look at the pattern closely for the reason that some pieces are needed twice.
Get Sewing Machine Ready
- Plug in the sewing machine and thread in you spool thread and the bobbin.
- Set your sewing machine to a straight stitch.
Sewing the Raise Seams
- Take the two front pieces of the pants and place them with the nice sides of the fabric together on the floor.
- Then use the clips to clip front raise seams together.
- Sew along the clips.
- Repeat the step for the two back pieces of the pants.
Sewing the Side Seam
- Place the front and back part of the pants on top of each other with the nice sides facing.
- Clip the outside seam together and sew along the clips.
Sewing the Inseam
- Take the pants flipped so the nice sides are facing each other.
- Clip the inseam together with clips.
- Sew along the clips starting at the crotch point and then sewing downwards on one leg.
- Then start at the crotch point again and sew down the other leg.
Adjusting the Size (if Necessary)
- Try on the pants and see how loose they are, if they are very loose measure how loose they with a measuring tape and divide the number by 4.
- Draw the 4 darts with a chalk pen (like on the top right image) in the width that you just calculated.
- Sew along the chalk lines.
Sewing the Waist Band
- Flip the pants the wrong way around, then fold about 5cm of fabric of the waist band to the outside.
- Sew around the waist band creating a 4cm tube, around the entire waist.
Opening the Waist Band
- Use a seam ripper to make a small hole into the waist band tube.
- Remember to make sure you only cut trough one layer of the tube.
Preparing the Rubber Band
- Take the rubber band and cut it into the length that you desire (keep a bit of seam allowance).
- Take a safety needle and secure it to the rubber band.
- Take a piece of tape and place it around the safety needle to make sure that it doesn't open.
Thread the Rubber Band in the Waist Band
- Take the rubber band and place the safety needle into the hole of the waist band.
- Thread the rubber band through the entire waist band until the rubber band is once around the waist band.
- Remember to make sure the the end of the rubber band doesn't go into the waist band because then its hard to get out again.
Sewing the Rubber Band Together
- Take the two ends of the rubber band and place them on top of each other.
- Use a zig zag stitch and sew back and forth at least 3 times.
Hemming the Bottom
- Flip the pants inside out.
- Fold the bottom of the pants twice with about.
- Sew around the fold with at least 2cm distance to the fold line.
- Repeat this for the other side as well.
Iron Seams
- Take an iron and neatly iron the seams so that they are flat on the side.
