Sewing Four Characters From FUZION FRENZY
Isn't it terrific?
In this project, I will be making Dub, Jet, Samson, and Zak from the 2001 Xbox game (or demo-game) Fuzion Frenzy. If that doesn't sound like a fun time, perhaps "your bass lines need tightening".
Because I'm sewing them each around an inch tall, I won't be making/showing how to make their shoes.
Supplies
For Dub, you will need:
Felt - light grey, grass green, dark grey, medium brown, tan, yellow, light tan
Fluff
Matching thread
For Jet, you will need:
Felt - medium pink, light grey, dark grey, pinkish tan
Fluff
Matching thread
For Samson, you will need:
Felt - tan, red, dark grey, yellow
Fluff
Matching thread
For Zak, you will need:
Felt - yellow, white, tan, light tan, pinkish tan, green, blue...
Fluff
Matching thread
And of course:
Sissors
A needle
BIG, BIG NOTE:
I am also making them about an inch tall for the Big and Small contest. If you wanted a full sized version, (obviously) don't cut yours the same size as mine.
Prepare Your Bodies
Before you start working on this project, you need to have you doll bodies ready. I’m not going to show how to make these in this instructable, so I recommend you go to my basic doll project first. Just remember, you will need to scale the bodies down very small.
That quarter is to show how small the dolls are. They turned out even smaller after being sewn.
Sew on Zak's Eyes (optional)
Zak is the only one who isn't wearing some kind of goggle (or eye covering thing), so you may want to sew eyes on him.
You could sew eyes on Jet too, but since felt isn't see-through they'd be covered anyway.
Starting Dub - "Yeah! I'm the Man!"
Firstly, that Dub picture doesn't fully match the in-game version of Dubby. Also, I ended up forgetting to sew his beard on... but then it would have crowded his face... :\
Cut out a white strip, and 'carve' it into the shape of his goggle/glasses. Then sew it on his face. Put a black line through the glasses.
For his hair, cut out a pointy flat piece for the front. Then cut out a bunch of small, triangular pieces to cover the back of his head with, and also cut out a small tan piece for the blonde bangs he has.
Sewing Dub - Starting His Headphones and Clothes
To make Dub's headphones, start by peeling the plastic off a twist tie. You won't need the whole thing, so peeling about an inch will work. Throw away the plastic and put the wire aside. (NOTE: I ended up losing my wire so keep very good track of yours.) Next, cut out the pieces you see in picture three. Sew one of the circles onto the little strip and sew it to one side of Dub's head. Sew the other circle on the other side of the strip and to the other side of his head. Bend the wire into an L shape and stick it into the headphones...
Cut out the pieces in picture 12 for his shirt. Sew on both sleeves (picture 13 & 14), fold it in half (picture 15), and sew the sides (picture 16). Then flip it inside out. I cut a slit down the back and put the shirt on to make sure it fit. However, take it off after doing so.
For his pants, cut out two green rectangles and cut small Js on the sides of them (picture 18). Sew each of the Js. I cut the legs in a triangular way before opening the pants out and sewing up the V (pictures 21-23). Flip the pants inside out (picture 24), and put them on him. Scrunching around the waist helps so that they won't come off (picture 12). Put his shirt on now so that it lays over his pants.
Finishing Dub - Creating His Electronics
First, cut out the pieces of felt that you see in picture 1. Also, peel a small piece of wire from the twisty tie. Sew the felt pieces together as in picture 2. Sew it onto Dub's leg.
Next, cut out everything you see in picture 4. Take one of the blueish-gray rectangles, and sew it to a strip (pictures 5-7). On another one of the rectangles, take a small green circle and sew it to the front (pictures 8 & 9). Sew everything together as in pictures 10 and 11, then sew the two straps on (pictures 12 &13). Put it on Dub. Sew the last two circles together (pictures 15 & 16), and sew them onto Dub's front... basically, the circle should hold his straps together on the front of him (view the last picture if you need).
For the electronic things on his arms, sew two small gray rectangular pieces onto his arms. Then loosely sew some of the thread between his backpack and the electronic-arm-things (pictures 18 & 19).
Starting Jet - "Okay! Let's Go!"
I don't know why I dreaded sewing Jet. She's not as complicated as Dub, but I dreaded it. I also realized (a bit late) that her outfit isn't the hottest pink... but rather kinda purple-pink... :\
For her hair, cut out three pink, triangular pieces and sew them to her head.
For her helmet, cut out the pieces you see in picture 3. Sew both pink sides to the yellow strip as in pictures 4 & 5. Sew the gray piece into the middle and sew it to her head. Attach a medium yellow rectangle to the front.
Sewing & Finishing Jet - Her Clothes and Little Extras
To make her outfit, cut out all the pieces in pictures 1-3.
Take two of the four dark pink sides and sew them to the light pink triangular piece (pictures 4 & 5). Sew another dark pink side onto the top (picture 6), sew on one sleeve (picture 7), and fold it in half (picture 8) and sew the sides together. Repeat for the other side. Sew up the leg V (picture 13 & 14). Flip it inside out and put it on her.
Sew up the back and pull it tight to her body. I took a small bit of fluff and shoved it down the front to give her a female chest.
Wrap/sew the gray strip around her hips/waist, and sew two gray rectangles over her shoulders. Sew two small rectangles on her leg as in picture 22. Cut out two triangular-ish rectangles, stack them, sew them together, and sew it to Jet's back to make her backpack.
Starting Samson - "Oh Yeah! You Picked the Right Man!"
Just a funny (or not so funny) little note: Every time my siblings and I play Fuzion Frenzy, I always play Samson. Heh heh.
We start with the bandana. Cut out a square (picture 3), sew the corners to his head (pictures 4 & 5), and scrunch the back (pictures 6-9). Cut out a very small rectangle, cut a slit in the middle (picture 10), and sew it to the back of his head (pictures 11 & 12).
For his glasses, 'carve' a black strip of felt into shape and sew them on.
Also, cut out a tiny square of lighter brown felt for his beard.
Sewing & Finishing Samson - Shirt, Pants, and Everything in Between
To make his shirt, cut out a brown square. Fold it in half and sew the sides below the arm holes. It may be helpful to cut the slit in the back and the neck hole, to be able to recognize where the arm holes should be... Flip it inside out and put it on him.
For his pants, cut out two red rectangles and cut small Js on the sides of them (picture 5). Sew each of the Js and open the pants out. Sew up the V (picture 8), and flip the pants inside out (picture 9). After putting them on him, I scrunched around the waist so that they wouldn't come off (picture 12).
I cut out a yellow strip for his belt and wrapped it around his waist. Two black strips wrapped (and sewn) around his legs will work for his knee pads. Wrapping yellow thread around his arm will work for that cuff... (picture 23, I snapped that off of Google)
Cut out two gray rectangles for his gloves, fold them in half, and scrunch the tops. Sew them to his arms and he's done!
Starting Zak - "We'll Show 'em!"
Once again, that picture of Zak does NOT match his in-game version. I am copying the way he looks in the game.
To create his hair, cut out a billion blue triangles. (I'm kidding, but you will need quite a few.) Fold the triangles in half and sew them to his head. ...I don't know what else to say...
Sewing & Finishing Zak - His Shirt, Pants, and Glove
Zak's outfit was fairly easy. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out a way to make the goggles he wears around his neck... so I didn't. If anyone has an idea how to make them... I would love to know. :D
Anyway, cut out the pieces in picture 1 for his shirt. Sew on both sleeves (picture 2 & 3), fold it in half (picture 4), and sew the sides (picture 5). Then I cut a slit down the back and put the shirt on the boy.
For his pants, cut out two green rectangles and cut small Js on the sides of them (picture 7). Sew each of the Js and open the pants out. Sew up the V (picture 10), and flip the pants inside out. After putting them on him, I scrunched around the waist so that they wouldn't come down (picture 13).
Sew his glove the same way we did Samson's. Cut out a blue rectangle, fold it in half, scrunch the top, flip it inside out, and sew it to his arm (pictures 14-18).
Since he wears another thing around his other wrist, I wrapped blue thread around his other hand/arm.
Conclusion
Well everyone, thank you for viewing this instructable. This project took over 150 pictures and more than a week (that's plus my procrastination and other minor hold backs) to make. I'd love to know who else loves this game as much as I do, and what your personal highest score on Twisted System was (mine is 96).
