For our machine sewing 101 workshop, our participants learn how to make their own coin pouches using scrap fabric and zippers.

Preparing Your Materials

Cut your fabric so that the short end of the fabric is the same length as the zipper, and the long end is double your desired size for the pouch.

Sew the Zipper

Sew the one side of the zipper on one side of the fabric, with the zipper handle facing down. Use a zipper foot if you have one to get your seam as close to the zipper as possible. Fold the fabric in half and sew the other side of the zipper down to create the opening of the pouch.

Close the Sides

Unzip the zipper and sew down the sides of the pouch, sewing over the ends of the zipper to close the sides.

Finish

Flip the pouch inside out and close the zipper! Customize with hand embroidery or use as is!
