Self Watering Design Pot (Made With Tinkercad)

Hello guys, today I'll show you one of my recent project on tinkercad. It was my first time using tinkercad and I got to say I was very surprised about how versatile it is for a free online 3d design app. It was quick to learn using their free tutorial that are available when you create an account. Once you have completed all of the tutorial which I will really advise you to do you will see it's pretty straight forward !

Supplies

Use tinkercad which is an online free CAD software
You just have to create an account here

Brainstorming

I wanted to make a pot for flower that was both modern looking and also ingenious. Since I had many ideas I decided to make a structure that could hold many pot and something that was modular so you could organize it as you will in a unique way.
I also drew on paper a brief pattern to know where I was going and get an idea of what it could look like.

Getting Started (making the Base)

I first created a new workplace and the 3d modeling began !
I knew that I wanted my base to look like a honey comb because I find it quite modern and it is easy to modulate.

I utilized the polygon shape from tinkercad to make the whole base.

I used two polygons with one smaller than the other one that I used to hollow the polygon and make some kind of a "pool".

Once the pool was made I duplicated it multiple times and linked them together in a shape that I liked.

Adding Holes

I then added holes through the walls of the "pools" in order for water to travel through the whole base.
The main idea was to use the bigger polygon as a water tower of some kind. That way filling the bigger polygon allows you to fill the hole base with water.

Making the Pots Base

I needed to make bases that would fit into my polygons "pools" in order to build the different pots off this universal base.
The idea was to use a rope that would go from the inside of the pot through the base to the pool in order for the plants to self water themselves.

So I made a base that wasn't flush to the ground with small supports that way it could sit a little above the water and the string of rope will be soaking in the water

Making the Different Pot Designs

I then decided to make many designs of pot that way you can organize and shape it as you will
I will not show you how I made them all because it took a lot of time but here are a few examples.

I tried to use as many original shapes from tinkercad that I then modified in order to make it easier.

The Different Designs Available

Here is an overview of all the designs available

It's almost like a puzzle

Every pot as a hole that goes from the inside where you put the dirt to the bottom where the water will be that way you can use a rope to self water the plants

Final Result

Here is the final product

I think it turned out great, it's practical, and modular as I intended it

Hope you guys enjoyed it and maybe it made you want to learn Tinkercad
