Self Trick or Treat

unnamed.jpg

Welcome! This project is about making an auto trick or treat, so that when you drive past it, a door with sweets opens.  First let's number what we need for the project.

  • An Arduino UNO
  • A USB cable
  • Connection cables
  • 2 Servo Motor
  • Distance detector
  • 2 LED lights
  • 1200mm x 300mm plywood sheet of 4 mm thickness.
  • Carpenter's glue.
  • Spary of black paint
  • One hinge
  • 4 screws
  • A vertical drill
  • A wood saw
  • A wood file
  • A screwdriver
  • A welder

The Arduino code and the circuit diagram.

Buying Materials

The first step to carry out the construction of the skull was to go to buy a wooden plate of 50cm x 30cm to make the box and go to a halloween store to buy the skull that would be the main object of our project that by means of a servomotor and some led lights would illuminate the eyes and would turn around itself.

Cutting Wood

Then we had to cut the wood with the saw of the workshop so that we had 4 side walls, two longer, two shorter, a base and a lid.

Making Wholes

the third step would be to pierce the lid in the middle more or less so that we can fit the servomotor so that the top of the servomotor is just above the lid and the bottom below and pierce the bottom of the skull to pass the wires inside and the eyes so that the LED lights come out through them.

The Door

The next step was to think how we would make the side door so that it opens so that people passing by can take the goodies that will be found inside.

To do the following we thought it would be best to do it with a hinge, so we went to buy a hinge and some screws and in the workshop with the help of a hammer we joined the top cover with the side with a hinge so that this side door could be opened from the bottom up.

Now we only needed one last detail before we could start to glue the wood together and this was to make two holes in the lid that opens sideways to put the sensor and fit it between the holes so that it is hooked to the side cover.

Glue Me

Now that we had all the details finished we could start gluing the covers together. We went to the workshop to ask for a wood glue and they gave us one with which in the same workshop we glued lid by lid until we had our box assembled, we left the top lid last because we still had to make a small wall inside the box to separate the arduino from the stuff.

Spray Me

Finally now that the box was almost finished we started to varnish it with black spray all over the box passing more than one layer and waiting for it to dry to get a matte black tone throughout the box and give it a more halloweenesque touch.

Last Details

As a last step now we only had to put a piece of wood inside to make a separator in the box and glue the top lid as we did with the other lids, and finally we have bought a crazy wheel and with a saw we have cut the upper part leaving only the wheel and a base that later will be placed just below the skull so that the rotation movement is more harmonic.
