Self-Tightening Belt Buckle

Have you ever been in a rush in the morning and struggled to get dressed? One of the most time consuming items to put on can arguably be your belt. Having to try and find the right hole to put your buckle through can really be irritating. The solution that can help your belt problem is a self tightening belt buckle. The buckle would be clamped on as if it were a seatbelt, then you’ll be able to twist the top of the buckle in order to tighten your belt to your liking. No more having to buy a certain size belt when you can buy one belt that fits all.
Supplies

- 3D Software
- 3D Printer
- Spray Paint (White & Blue) and Primer (Metal)
Sketch Design

Before I started 3D printing anything, I first wanted to get the overall design of the belt buckle down. I used dimensions from a real buckle to determine how wide I wanted the base to be in order for the belt to fit. I made the buckle resemble a v-buck (Fortnite) so it wouldn't seem so bland.
3D Design

After I get the general design sketched out, I put the design into Fusion 360. This allowed me to see how my buckle would look like as a 3d object. The base of the buckle would be overlapped by the cover of the buckle. Those two piece would then be connected by a "screw" like part. This would allow the buckle to have to ability to spin rather than being a single part.
Printing

Once I modeled my designs, I had them 3d printed. They first design wasn't how I intended the buckle to look, so I redesigned it and printed it again. After the second print, the buckle looked ideal to what I intended it to be.
Painting

The final step I did to complete the buckle was to paint it. I used blue and white spray paint and a metal primer. I used the white spray paint as an undercoat to help the primer and blue pop out more. After the white spray paint dried, I coated the whole buckle with the primer to give it a metallic look. After the primer was done drying, I finished the buckle off with blue paint as an accent, helping the buckle not look as bland. Now that you're done, put it onto your leather belt and show off your stylish new buckle.
