Create your own set of 400 go stones with as little as 50€ / 7hrs of work. Overall process might take a week (drying times...)

Steps are for 100 stones at a time: repeat 4 times to get 400 stones.

Warning: this instructable is still a work in progress

Mandatory

  • To Buy:
  • 3d printed mold: you can get my design here: ~10€
  • Self-hardening clay (2kg): ~20€
  • Matte Black and Lucid White Acrilic Spray Paint: ~16€

Optional (25€):

Craft Rough Stones

Work required: 1hr / 100 stones

  1. Form small clay balls;
  2. Put plastic wrap on both molds
  3. Press hard so each stone easily detaches from excess clay. Watch out for excess clay: in the photo above, you can see some stones have protruding clay. You should avoid that.
  4. Lay them on the cloth / towel to avoid making them deform under their own weight.
  5. Wait for stones to be completely dry before going to next step (this could take up to 2 days)

Tumble

Work required: 20 minutes / 100 stones

  1. Put 100 stones in the plastic jar, together with 25ml / 5 teaspoons of water.
  2. Roll the jar for 10 minutes. Stones should have a regular shape by now, but the texture might still be a bit rough.
  3. Put the stones back on the towel
  4. Wait for stones to be just damp on the surface
  5. Put the stones back in the jar (without adding water)
  6. Tumble again for 5 minutes. Stones should have a very smooth surface by now
  7. Wait for stones to be completely dry

Paint

  2. Wait for paint to dry
  3. Flip the stones and paint the other side
  4. Wait for paint to dry
