Seasoned Oven Fries
We've always been big potato fans - See Twice Microwaved Potatoes , Makers Pie and Nom Nom Mashed Potatoes for some previous examples. But homemade oven "fries" are truly one of life's simple and tastiest pleasures!
They're "fries" by appearance only. Unlike fast food deep fried fries, these actually taste like potatoes.
They're easy to make, fairly healthy - because they're actually not fried - and delicious!
Ingredients
You don't need much:
- Use sweet potatoes or yams , or your garden variety Idaho.
- Olive oil
- Seasonings of choice
Prep Your Potatoes
Give your potatoes a good scrubbing. You don't need to peel them - the skins help make a nice crisp exterior to protect that nice tender interior.
Preheat Oven to 450 Degrees
Just do that...
Slice Potatoes
Also called "steak fries", oven fries are best when they're cut into thick wedges to create a nice surface area for the seasoned olive oil.
Make Seasoned Olive Oil
There are SO many things you can do here! We typically use about a 1/4 cup of olive oil and either about 4 or 5 tablespoons of onion dip mix, or some Mrs. Dash's table blend seasoning, or even steak seasoning.
Old Bay Seasoning is also wonderful, or you can use Italian seasoning.
We tend to mix it up between batches and have never been disappointed with any combo we've tried - probably because once you bake a potato of any size - it's good!
Toss and coast your potato wedges thoroughly.
Bake!
Arrange your coated wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet. Try not to overlap too much, so your potatoes crisp up evenly.
Bake for 15 Min, Then Turn
Bake your potatoes for about 15 min, then give them a flip, and bake another 10-15 minutes, until they're done to your satisfaction. They should be nicely browned, moreso along the thin edge of the wedge, just this side of being charred.
Plate and Serve!
There you have it! Lightly crisp on the outside, baked potato tender on the inside - a finger friendly oven fry that pairs up great with coleslaw and pulled pork sandwiches, and just about anything else!
Enjoy!
