One my son in laws is an avid Texas fan so for Christmas last year I carved him a longhorn steer skull.

Supplies

Pine wood

Arbortech Plane

Gaff speedcutter

Bandsaw helps

Drill

Rasps

Sandpaper

Carving knives

Clamps

Ear protection

Eye protection

Are the main tools required

I Started With the Horns

Carving A Texas longhorn skull: Part 1

The first part of this carving were the horns. Then glued up and roughed out the skull.

Keep Looking for the Skull “within”

Texas longhorn skull carving, Part 2

Once I had the skull roughed out I began carving, using all the tools I had to make it as easy as I could.

Keep Looking for the Shape of a Skull

Texas longhorn:Part 3

Again using everything I could think of to continue making the shape of a skull I used. Adding details helps it to look more like a longhorn steer skull.

Taking a Risk

Longhorn steer: final episode

I wasn’t happy with the eyes of the skull so I made a move that could have ruined the entire project.
