Sculpting Pumpkin Brothers.
I carved these Pumpkins a while back and never posted them, so here ya go! Some instructions, too, but I wish I had taken more in-between pictures.
TOOLS
Here's pretty much all the tools I used. I also used a cheese plane to start the pumpkin. The chisels were used for big removal and shaping, while the exacto-knife was used to do all of the fine detailing and designing.
Skin the Pumpkin
I used a cheese plane to take off the skin of the pumpkin before carving. No need to even open it up or or gut it.
Learn How to Carve a Pumpkin.
I din't get good in between photos, but I did make a new video of this simple eye, and how to carve larger parts with a chisel.
Put in All the Details
So there's not a good how-to on carving. but I'll do my best to describe the process.. Wherever you want a dark line, you have to carve out a very deep sliver. If you want it very dark ,like the center of the eye, you must go all the way through to the inside of the pumpkin. Other than that, it jsut takes practice, jsut like sculpting or drawing or painting. It helps to have a reference photo or something as you go.
Finish Surface.
As you see in the photos, it takes a while, and the outer surface dries out. You can scrub it with a scotch bright sponge to take off the most outer layer to make it look nice and smooth it out again.
FINISHED
I think that overall, the smaller one took about 3 hours and the bigger one took 4. The small pumpkin in the guy's head was cut in half and placed on with toothpicks. Have fun!
oh yes, VOTE for me! thanks.
