Scrap Paper Bookmarks
Do you constantly find yourself using stray pieces of paper or random objects as bookmarks? If you do, it's probably time for a bookmark! Here is a super simple way to make your own unique bookmark!
Supplies
- Paper - Textured, colored, pattern, or whatever kind you would like!
- Scissors
- Glue - Stick or liquid
- Pattern Scissors (optional)
- Hole Puncher
Background Color
To start off, you will need a blank strip of paper to serve as your bookmark base! I used a 2in by 7in piece of cardstock, but normal paper would work fine too!
Next, you will want to hold that strip against a color of your choice (I chose yellow) and cut another 2in by 7in paper strip from that color. Now glue these strips together so that you have your color on top of your base piece of paper. Now we're ready to add more detail!
Detail Time!
Now let's add some details! If you have scissors that cut with a design or texture, feel free to use those! If you don't, cutting your own texture onto the paper is just as easy and even more unique!
For this step, I used my textured scissors to cut just the top of a small rectangular piece of paper. Then I lined that piece up with the bottom of my bookmark, glued it on, and cut off the excess paper! If you have some strips of paper like I did, hold on to them! They will help us with the next step!
More Details!
Let's take those paper strips from the previous step, and add some diagonal stripes to the yellow part of our bookmark! This gives some extra details, and helps us use up this extra paper!
New Colors!
Take a third color and your scissors again! Lets make another colorful, textured strip and place it just under our other textured section! This creates another pattern that works with the other texture that we already created!
With this third color, you can also create some more stripes and place them in the corner diagonal to your other stripes. Glue these down and cut off any excess paper!
I felt like my bookmark needed a little more detail in the yellow space, so I went ahead and added an extra blue stripe! Feel free to add as many (or as few) stripes and details as you'd like!
Let's Add a String!
Now we can add the string detail that you see so commonly in bookmarks! Simply punch a hole in the top of your bookmark and thread your string through! You can loop it through as I did in the pictures above, or tie it on however you would like! You will also see that I tried this style of bookmark in a monochrome pink, which worked out great as well!
Other Options!
The great thing about this project is that you can design your bookmark however you want! If you weren't a huge fan of the previous suggestions, try using a shape punch tool (or cut out your own shapes) and paste them like I did in these pictures. Your glue these and cut off the excess paper just like earlier!
All Done!
Now you're all done! Here you can see a few of the different ways I decided to make these bookmarks. Feel free to make yours just like this, or add your own twists and details! Thanks for joining me! Feel free to share your creation and ideas with others below!
