Cut the first plate to size. This will be the largest plate.

Do this with all six plates, cutting each plate smaller than the one before.

Drill a Small Hole

Using an X-Acto knife, twist a small hole into the center of all six plates. Make sure the holes are big enough to fit the brass fastener into, but not too big that the plates will have too much room to move.

(Optional) Sand Plates' Edges

If you used paper plates, continue to the next step. However if you used plastic plates, you will most likely have rough edges you will want to file down.

To smooth the edges simply take a piece of sand paper and sand off the rough parts until the edges are as you desire

Put Plates on Fastener

Stack the plates ontop of eachother starting biggest to smallest, making sure the holes drilled in the step before are lined up. Once you have them lined up, push the pin through all six plates.

Secure Pin

Turn the plates over to the backside and spread the brass fastener and secure the plates.

Design Template for Words

57611716_434603370440513_3458332487355203584_n.jpg

Trace your plate to create a template. Then pick the words or phrase you want scrambled/ revealed on the puzzle and lay them out as you would want them on the final piece.

Create Stickers

Cut out a square of tape just big enough to write your each letter on, and tape it on top of a letter on your template. The tape should be transparent enough that you can easily trace over the letters with sharpie. Color the letter in for boldness, then cut it out.

ALTERNATIVE: If you wish, you could also use pre-made sticker letters.

Lay Stickers on and X-Acto

Lay each sticker onto the intended spot on your plates. Once all the letters are on, take the X-Acto knife and trace each circle which will cut the stickers, allowing the wheels/plates to spin and scramble your phrase.
