School Supplier Holder

For my instructible I made a box which dispense pencils but it's not just a regular one because it can also hold erasers, small papers or sticky notes on top, and has a built-in pencil sharpener. This is useful because it is easier to have all your things in one place and could be moved around easily.

The supplies you will need for this project is Cardboard pieces (MEASUREMENTS), scotch tape, an Office Depot brand double-hole manual pencil sharpener, 72 #2 HB pencils (at least 2 or more), scissors, a notebook and pen/pencil to draw the design and planning things out.

The first step you need to do is to draw a design in your notebook and draw the object similar to how I did. You should draw it from multiple angles and label everything to make it easier to understand what everything is and what it does. you should use this for reference when building or designing the box. After this I made a digital model of what I wanted the design to look like. This isn't required but it could help you understand more by having a 3D model to look at and see it outside of your drawing and get a better understanding if how it should look like. while going through the process things can change and improve on some things.

The next step should be to start building. To start you want to get your cardboard and then cut them into 6 pieces which will be the walls for the box. You will need 4 smaller pieces (24.5 by 8.3 cm) for the sides, top, and bottom and then you'll need 2 (20 by 25cm) pieces for the front and back.

The next step you want is to tape everything together but leave out the top piece because we will need to add to the inside of the box. tape half of 2 of the smaller pieces and put the other half on the 2 bigger pieces to create a thin box. make sure to tape all around the corners to make sure it is sturdy and secure. after taping it should look like the images shown.

For this next step you want to get your pencil sharpener and take the lid off, then around top of the bigger front side of the box, place it and then trace around it to get the shape of the hole for the sharpener to be placed. Once you have the shape traced use scissors to cut out the hole and it should look like the image shown above.

You will need 2 small boxes so to make it you will need 2 longer pieces of cardboard (5 by 2cm) for the front/bottom, 2 smaller pieces for the sides (3 by 2cm), then tape them together almost like a "T" shape shown below and after they are taped together fold the front and sides up to make half a box shape. Once you have your box tape the sides on the open part to the front of the pencil box a little under the hole you made for the sharpener. Then you will make a second box and tape it in the inside but make sure that the box isn't under the hole but in front of it so when we put the sharpener it can sit on the holder to keep it still.

to make it dispense pencils we need to add a slit on the box to insert a piece of cardboard to press down on. cut an 11cm cut near the bottom of the box but not too low, under that cut we need to cut out an 18 by 2.3 cm rectangle which is where the pencils will fall out of. for the rectangle make sure it is at the very bottom of the front of the box and have the top flap uncut. next you want a 24.1 by 5.4cm piece of cardboard to insert on the inside of the box and make sure it is fully against the back of the box so there is room near the slit. next you want to cut a 10.2 by 6cm cardboard piece and slide it into the 11cm cut, don't put it all the way because we need half of it to stick out to press on but put it in just enough to touch the 24.1 by 5.4cm piece we had in the box (make sure a little part is overlapping the inner part.

for the roof you want to get your 24.5 by 8.3cm piece from earlier and add a piece of tape to one side and connect it to the top side of the box to lift it open. Next you want to add a hook on top of the roof piece so to do that you will get two 3.6 by 1.6 cm cardboard pieces then tape them together from the top to the bottom, you want to fold it into an L shape and tape around the edges to keep it held together. tape that on the left edge of the roof and you will have the clip.

once everything is done it should look like my finished prototype above. you can insert the sharpener in the hole above the basket and in the basket, you can put your erasers and the pencils in the box by opening the lid.
