Savoury Puff Pastry Trees on a Stick
Puff pastry trees are perfect as a Christmas party finger-foods. They take minutes to assemble, can be made in advance and baked later in the day. They can be altered to suit everyone's tastes and filled with different hams, spreads, cheeses... Best eaten warm straight from the oven, but they can be enjoyed cold or reheated as well.
Supplies
For 14-16 trees:
1 puff pastry sheet
2-3 TBS pesto or 2-3 TBS concentrated tomato sauce and few slices of ham
1 egg yolk + pastry brush
olives or cubed cheese to be used as a topper
bamboo skewers (soak them in water beforehand to avoid burning)
Unroll puff pastry sheet and cut it into 2 cm thick, 24 cm long strips. Spread a thin layer of pesto or concentrated tomato sauce and add ham, spices, herbs etc.
Take each strip and fold as shown in the pictures. Put a bamboo skewer through the middle.
Place skewers on a baking pan and brush it lightly with an egg yolk.
Bake for 15 min at 200C or 390F.
