Hello! In this instructable i am going to show you how i went about making Sauron's Mace!

Items i used are!

  • Marker Pen
  • A3 Paper
  • Stanley Knife
  • Lathe
  • Chisels
  • Foam Board
  • Glue Gun + Sticks
  • Black Acrylic Paint
  • White Acrylic Paint
  • Paint Brush x2
  • Wood

The Goal!

The image above shows what i intended to make, i always use a reference picture!

First i measured out the mace roughly just to get a size, then i measured where all the kinks where so i could mark the wood i was using for the lathe.

Cutting Out the Mace!

Next i marked out the wood i was using so i knew where to cut. (i found the wood in my garden)

My lathe was a bit too small for the whole mace to fit on so i had to make the top spike a separate piece!

Gluing It Together!

Ok so once i had all the pieces cut out of the wood i then glued them together with hot glue!

This isn't the best way to do it though, if you are going to attempt this project, drill a hole up into each piece and stick a dowel into them THEN glue them together, it will make a stronger fit!

Glueing the Blades On!

Next i roughly guess out the blade shape (again from reference pictures) and cut them out of foam board.

I then glued them on to the handle using hot glue.

Next i used a sander to make the handle more angular.

Also i added some detail such as runes going along the length of the mace using a hot glue gun!

Painting!

This is probably the easiest step of this project!

The technique i used is really simple but effective!

First paint the entire mace black, then once its dry get another paint brush, put a tiny bit of white on it and then rub it off onto some cardboard. When the brush is more or less dry then scrub it all over the mace, this will give it a rough weathered effect and make it look like its made from metal! (this is called dry brushing!)

And thats all there is too it!

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

The Finished Thing!
