Santa's in My Chimney!!!!

IMG_9667.JPG

This instructable will show you how to make your very own wearable chimney, perfect for ugly Christmas sweater day. This costume gives the illusion of Santa climbing out of your very own chimney making it perfect for the occasion.

Supplies

All you will need:

  • medium sized cardboard box (big one can be cut to size)
  • red paper for the bricks
  • brown paper for the base colour
  • cotton wool or bubble wrap for the snow
  • fairy lights
  • braces/suspenders to hold up the costume

Step 1: the Basic Frame

Take your box and fold the flaps in, using hot glue to hold them down.

Next wrap the box in brown paper just like a present. The brown paper I used is widely available at most post offices.

Step 2: Brick Laying

Cut bricks out of red/dark brown paper. I used red wrapping paper and made mine roughly 5cm x 15cm but this part is mostly down to preference. This is an opportunity to personalise your costume so do what you think looks best.

Once the bricks are cut out glue them in a classic brick formation where each layer is half a brick sideways from the last.

Step 3: Let It Snow

This is the most complicated part of the build as it can be done multiple ways.

Bubble wrap snow:

Wrap your fairy lights in a tube of bubble wrap with the bubbles facing outwards. Fasten the tube at regular intervals with clear tape as discretely as you can. Then hot glue to the top edge of the box with the battery pack taped to the inside.

Cotton wool snow:

Tape the fairy lights along the top edge of the box. Next add a thick layer of glue to the cardboard above and below the lights. Finally place tufts of wool on the glue so that they overlap the fairy lights and conceal the wire.

Step 4: the Braces

Finally clip braces/suspenders to the side of the box. These will go over your shoulders and hold the costume up.

And there you have it, your very own portable chimney!
