Have you ever been on a long road trip and stopped at one of those weird gas station gift shops and as you were walking through you see saltwater taffy. As you go to grab some, you see that the price is way too high so you put it back. And think to yourself I wish I knew how to make my own. Well, then this is the instructable for you!!! This will show you how to go through the process of making your very own saltwater taffy!!! You would never have to buy it again.....

Supplies

Here are the items you will need:

  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Candy thermometer
  • Large pot
  • Sifter
  • Whisk
  • Heatproof dish
  • stovetop
  • Knife

  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup

Lets Start Preparing

After you have gotten all your ingredients together you want to measure them all out so that it is easier to work with.

First, put the candy thermometer into the large pot making sure the bottom of the thermometer is not touching the bottom of the pot so you can get a clear reading. Add your sugar into the pot then sift in your cornstarch and whisk till they are combined then add the butter, corn syrup, salt, water, vanilla, and the extract that you chose. Then start mixing away until you have gotten all the ingredients to combine. Now go over to the stovetop and set the pot on top and turn it up to medium heat until the ingredients reach 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

Adding the Color

Now that the saltwater taffy has reached the right temperature now its time to add the color you want to use then stir until you can see the color all the way through it. The color will become a bit lighter once you stretch it later in the process just keep that in mind.

Letting Your Taffy Cool

After you have stirred in the color you're going to take it off the heat and put it into a greased heatproof dish until it is cool it should take about 5-10 minutes to cool or until you can handle it.

Time to Stretch IT!!!!!!!!!

You are going to stretch it out to about 30 cm or longer it up to you then you will fold it then stretch it again then fold it then stretch it again and keep repeating this action for about 15 minutes or until it goes from a trans

Roll It Out

Now you are going to roll it out so that it is about 72cm long or however thick you want it once you have rolled it out then you are going to cut it about an inch apart and keep going until you can not cut it anymore after this you can wrap them if you would like or you can just eat them. Enjoy!!!!
