Salt Modeling Clay

My 8 year old wanted to make a craft on this rainy day, and I wanted to make something for the garden so.....an idea was born!!!

I had pinned a Similar idea on pintrest, but I am using homemade clay instead of store bought.

Using an old recipe art and craft book I had, I found a recipe for salt modeling clay.

You will need:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 teaspoon tartar powder
1/3 to 1/2 cup water
Food coloring (optional)
Also need.....
Cookie cutters/stamps or a knife to carve words or designs into clay.

*Makes a 1 1/2 cups....(I doubled my recipe.)

1. Combine flour, salt, and tartar in a bowl.
2. Add water a little at a time, and stir into the flour mixture until it is like pie dough.
3. Knead in until it is throughly mixed and has a smooth concistency.
4. Clay will be white. You can paint it after it dries or you can add food coloring....knead until mixed.

How to use it:
-model as with clay or roll 1/3 inch thick and cut into shapes with cookie cutter or stamps.
-Excellent for ornaments.
-flower planters
-kids crafts
-classroom project
-so much more!

Use stamps and cookie cutters to make shapes, designs and words.

Dries within 2 or 3 days. For quick drying bake on a cookie sheet for 1 to 2 hours at 200 degrees F.
