Salsa Mac&Cheese
Macaroni and cheese is a stable of comfort. The dish's taste brings back memories of a distant childhood. However so has its flavor. As we reach adulthood, food palettes change and expand. Our comfort foods and childhood favorites need an upgrade. Salsa Mac&Cheese adds new flavor to a classic dish.
Ingredients and Materials
I know it's a lot but bear with me.
1 lb ground turkey
1 oz chicken stock
1 16 oz box of uncooked shell or elbow macaroni
10 oz shredded cheese
1 can salsa
10 pieces bacon or 1 container bacon bits
1 tablespoon butter
1 can cooking spray
1 medium bowl
1 stock pot
1 cooking spoon
1 baking sheet
1 sharp knife
Aluminum foil
1 plastic bag
Preheat
If using bacon bits, skip the step. Preheat at 350.
Prepare the Pot
Spray stock pot with cooking spray (helps prevent food from sticking to the pot). Place pot on stove and set at medium high heat.
Ground Turkey
Drop butter into the pot. Over the pot, use knife to open ground turkey. Push all contents out. Discard wrapping into a plastic bag and in the trash.
Cook Until Brown
After washing your hands. turn meat where the bottom is now the top. Use cooking spoon to scrap the brown meat. Move meat aside and roll frozen meat behind the other one. Repeat this method until frozen meat breaks. Continue breaking up ground turkey with cooking spoon. Cook until brown. (If ground turkey already defrosted just cook until brown).
Add and Boil
Stir while adding chicken stock. On a baking sheet add bacon. Put it in the oven. Skip if using bacon bits. Cook until boil, stir occasionally.
Cook 10 Minutes
Stir while adding pasta. Cook for 10 minutes.
Hot and Bubbly
Add cheese and salsa, stir. Take bacon out of the oven. Cook until hot and bubbly, Stir occasionally.
Topping
Break bacon into small pieces. Serve with a sprinkle of bacon on top
