Safer Traffic Lights (Not Working)
Hello everybody,
Today I am showing how to create a safer traffic junction. By lengthening the time of the yellow traffic light.
This traffic light system is developed for a safer road experience.
The lengthening of the lights happens when it freezes (from -1°C and below) than the yellow light will be lengthened by 2 seconds.
If its dark than the yellow light will only be lengthened by 1 second.
If it freezes at night the yellow light will also only be lengthened by 2 seconds.
Supplies
Raspberry Pi
Small traffic lights
Ldr sensor
Temperature sensor
Pressure sensor
Lcd Display
(wires , resistors ,etc)
Step 1: Fritzing + Circuit
The first step of this project was to start on a scheme with what sensor / actuator I will put where on the breadboard
The RGB leds in the scheme are mini traffic lights.
When you are done reading the scheme its time to make it on the breadboard
Designing Frontend
For the design of the website I went with a pretty easy design of big buttons with a grey background.
In order of the images :
Homepage : The page where you can choose between following options
History : Here you can see the history of all the sensors and actuators
Map : A small map of the intersection
Sensor stats : The current state of the sensors
Lightstage : the current stage of the lights (red , yellow , green)
Code Backend
I wont be able to show you the backend code because it does not work
Prototype Intersection
For the intersection i used hard paper a sort of cardboard in black. Out of a bigger piece I cut out a piece of 40x40 cm. and than i designed a weird T-intersection enough for 3 traffic lights
After the cut out part , I painted multiple lines to indicate road marking and making it a bit nicer for the eye. I also painted stop lines for the car to wait behind. All there was to do after that was putting the traffic lights up and making the weather station
