Saddling a Horse

Aydens instructable SD 480p

Hi. My name is Ayden. Have you ever wanted to ride a horse but don’t know how to saddle the horse? Well, I’m going to teach you how to saddle one. A horse can be your best friend it can also be your worst nightmare. I am going to show you the process of getting your horse ready to ride and did you know the saddle was invented around 800 BC.

Catch the Horse

First you will have to catch the horse and put the halter on him. Next bring the horse to a place to tie him up preferably with space on both sides of the horse.

Brush the Horse

Grab a brush and brush your horse this will help so there is no stickers or anything that rubs when you put the blanket and saddle on.

Place the Blanket and Saddle Pad

Grab your saddle blanket and saddle pad. First put the blanket on so it lines up with the wither (bump where the back and neck meet). Then put the saddle pad on top of the saddle blanket.

Place Saddle

Grab your saddle and put it on the saddle pad, so the hole under the horn matches up with the wither. Then unhook your cinches, They will be hanging on the right side of the horse.

Front Cinch

Take your front cinch and put it through your latigo and rigging ring. (the front cinch is the closest cinch to the head of the horse) On this saddle you will want to make sure your front cinch isn’t all the way tight so you can hook up the breast collar(not needed).

Buckle the Breast Collar

On this saddle you connect your breast collar through the rigging ring. Feed it through the rigging ring and make sure it is tight against there chest.

Clip the Breast Collar

Next clip the breast collar under the horse to the front cinch.

Tighten Front Cinch

After your front cinch and breast collar is on then go back to the front cinch and tighten it. Pull up on the latigo and put the pin in and pull the front strap to lock the pin in.

Tighten Back Cinch

Now tighten the back cinch, grab the back billet and put your back cinch through and make it snug.

Put Bridle On

Now that you have your saddle on it’s time to put the bridle on. Hold your bridle in one hand, and you’ll have to take the halter off with the other. When the halter is off you will take your bridle and put the bit in his mouth. (He might not take it so you will have to put your thumb in his mouth). Then slide the head piece over his head. On this bridle it has a throat latch that you strap under his throat.
