SURPRISE Chocolate Egg

Why go the trouble? Who has the time for it? Just go to the store and grab Kinder (or other brands), and you are good to go.

Well, I love playing in the kitchen WHEN I have the time. But even when I don't really have, I make the time for an extra memory for the kids and myself :)

This way, I can fill whatever I like inside the eggs as I know what the kids like, so there is nothing that would be wasted, from sweets, gift cards, or even a diamond ;-)

Materials

Wafer Paper

Fondant/gumpaste/modelling chocolate (whichever you like)

Chocolates/marshmallows/gift card/ or even a ring (is just an idea)

Chocolate wafers/melts/chips/ or even regular chocolate and/or baking chocolate

Mold in the shape of an egg

Scissor

Pastry brushes

Cookie cutter/paper puncher

Food colors

Method

Melt the chocolate wafer in 30 seconds intervals, don't burn.

Fill the egg mold, let harden. If you have the 3D egg mold, it would have 2 cavities to make a whole egg shape. If you don't, just do it twice.

Meanwhile, make decorations using fondant (or others I mentioned). Color, shape, cut as you please.

Once chocolate harden, unmold it and fill with mini chocolates (or others I mentioned). Attach both egg sides with melted chocolate and start decorating!

Attach decorations with melted chocolate if needed (such as for the roof and door).

The island is cake, the red and yellow flowers are wafer paper, the rest are gumpaste.

Recipe for the cake:

2 c cake flour

2 tsp BP

a pinch of salt

4 tbsp butter

1 c sugar

1 egg beaten

3/4 c milk

1 tsp vanilla

Mix dry, set aside

Beat sugar and cream until fluffy, then add flour mixture a small amount at a time, alternating with the milk, until blended

I halve the batter and add 1-2 tbsp cocoa powder.

Bake at 375 F for 25 mins

Once baked and cooled at room temperature, crumble cake and add in enough buttercream (or canned frosting) and make a lump of island :)

Here are a couple of pictures I took when my oldest son 'smash' his surprise egg :)
