This is a short instructable on how I moded a Nintendo Wii case with fiber optic stars and logo for a Star Wars themed Wii! This Wii is on sale now on E-Bay, it will also have the Star Wars the Force Unleashed game.

Warning Mod at your own risk, I take no responsibility if you mess up your Wii!!

Parts

The parts include:

Black Wii case (ebay from Great seller msmmall)
Fiber optics 2 diff. sizes (E-bay from Great seller thefiberopticstore)
L.E.D. 's: I used 3 yellow,4 white, 3red (1 for light bar, 2 for Wiimote and Nunchuk)
Small amount of Plexiglass
Thin brass sheet
Epoxy
Sticker paper
A needle
Model paint
wires, solder, soldering iron, etc.
and a Wii!!!

The Logo

This was actually very simple, first print out two of the logo's on the sticker paper in the size you want. Second cut one out around the border and place it on the Plexiglass. Then cut that out and remove the sticker. Next cut out the letters and put them on the brass sheet, the brass was so thin that I was able to cut it with scissors. The holes in the A's and the R's were done with a utility knife.
Print a third logo on regular paper. Now with all the pieces, place the Plexiglass on top of the 3rd logo and epoxy the letters in the correct place. When dried, drill holes from the back side for the three L.E.D.s and for three mounting hangers; the hangers were made out of paper clips. Drill holes in the case in the same spots and then bend the hangers over to hold the logo in place. I then connected the L.E.D.s in parallel with wires leaving extra for hook up.

Stars!! for Star Wars

So now you've got the logo done, its time for the stars! The thin fiber optics were about the same dia. as a sewing needle I had, so I just heated it up with a small candle and pushed it through the case form the inside out. The bigger holes were done with a paper clip in the same manner. I then looked at the case against a light as to see the effect. Once satisfied I counted the holes and planed to make some stars fade in and out , figuring out how many were to stay on and how many to fade (on each side). This is why I have four l.e.d's powering the stars.
After finding out the numbers, I cut the fibers longer then I needed so I could glue, then trim later. Next I bunched them together with thread and epoxied them, gluing the l.e.d.'s at the bottom.

Red Light Bar

This was also a simple step. I had a hight intensity red l.e.d. and filed it down on both sides to make it flat. I also filed the light bar down to accept the l.e.d., then epoxied them together. I just cut off the connector and soldered it on the l.e.d. since the resistor is already in the Wii. Thats It!!

Darth FADER!!!

So searching all over the web for a fading circuit, I stumbled across a great sight!!! SICKmods has some great products, great service and fast shipping, they even have a forum to help you out. I ordered the Fader circuit and installed it with no problems! This thing can fade up to 10 l.e.d.'s, even though I only used 3, one for each side and the light bar.

Then Some Detail

I then decided to add some detail to the other side so its not just stars. I went with the destroyed Death Star an X-Wing and on the top, Darth Vader's Tie Fighter; all are hand painted (which took forever). After the paint dried, I tested it then trimmed the fibers and put it all together.

Finished!!
