SONIC HEROES Toys

Hello Hello Hello ...HI and Welcome to an D.I.Y Instructable instruction on how to make your very on SONIC HEROES character, including Sonic himself, Knuckles, Tails and everyone's favourite anti-hero SHADOW.

So

Old Xmas baubles SHAPE OBJECTS( two piece that look similar to baubles)

GLUE GUN

SPRAY CANS

FELT OR FOAM

PIPE CLEANERS

POSCA PENS

ACRYLIC PAINTS

TABLE TENNIS BALLS

SCISSORS

CARD PAPER

PICTURE REFERENCE OF CHOSEN CHARACTER

I started off by having two baubles, in my case two transparent baubles I got from my old working place, But I needed to hot glue them permanently, so they are not easy to take off afterwards ...but you can use old or worn down baubles shape objects, hot glue them together, as if you were making a double jointed baubles like so... now next the legs,arms,hands and feet parts.

Get your pipe cleaners, two of them for this part, wrap one pipe cleaner around the neck part of your body based baubles object, make sure they are evenly length as if they arms a spreading apart and hot glue them from behind so they won't easily fall off.

Get the second pipe cleaner for the legs,then put them through the hole or hook part of the baubles then hot them and bend the feet as so.

Get one table tennis balls, cut them in half and make a hole as if you were making a small shoe for your toy, put the feet pipe cleaner through the feet like table tennis ball and hot glue them to hold into place and the hands are your choice of expression, weather you want your character to have a different hand expression, I choose to draw a fist like hand for my sonic hero toy... draw them on hard paper, white would be necessary but I had yellow instead and drew the hands and coloured it in white posca markers,then cut out the hands and hot glue them to the arm part of the figure...so now you have a full on skeleton type figure,ready to be customised.

Now we fully colour our chosen character,weather it's Sonic,Knuckles, Tails or Shadow, with spray Aerosol paint, or acrylic paint, but I prefer Spray paint, the quicker the better. Make sure your working space is well ventilated and wear a mask when doing this,you can paint the figure fully and wait for them to dry for and hour or over night which I did, plus you can even paint their shoe or paint it separately after they are dried and ready to add more extra features, such as their ears,eyes, mouth, accessories and others... which will be the next step.

And now the final part of this step,as your figure is dried up from the paint the body to it's full body colour,go to a picture reference of the character and bring out your posca marker, acrylic paint or sharpie markers, as long as they are stable on the figure you have made. So I start by drawing Sonic's eyes, muzzle first, then fully coloured it with my Posca markers (white and Orange... but it's best to use peach for the muzzle part) wait for it to dry and get a few scrap of blue foam or felt small enough for the spike part of Sonic and for the ears too.

Cut them in the shape of Sonic's spiky hair and make triangle ears too, add pink posca for the ear holes... as you can see from one of these photographs, the white posca is leaking on the muzzle part of Sonic's face, so then I move to the acrylic paint and mixed paint to make a peach like colour and that's much more stable than posca,so now I hot glue the ears in front of the spike part of Sonic's head.

Then painted his sneakers with red and white acrylic paint and his chest with white posca marker, then add in all the black details like the nose,eyes, mouth and redrawn the gloves as I must have over painted them with the aerosol cans, with sharpie or posca or whatever marker of choice you like to use

(this technique can be used with the other characters but always use a picture reference to see what they have on themselves.)

Now you have completed your SONIC HEROES toy figure ... you can add spray varnish or brush varnish to complete it fully or just leave it like so. I hope this tutorial can be of good help to you in creating your Favourite Sonic character or anything cartoon character, made out of old and forgotten used household items ...
