This probably won’t scare any Trick or Treaters but it makes an effective display. All you need are some Dollar Store skulls, strings of lights and a scrap of wood. You can make it as large as you want and not only do the eyes light up but the skulls glow in a very spooky way.

You need: Dollar Store plastic skulls, a string of battery operated Halloween lights for each skull, a 1” Philips screw for each skull, AA batteries, and a piece of split rail or small log.

Tools are a portable drill, a Philips bit, a step drill bit, a pair of heavy duty shears and a glue gun.

Drill a starter hole in the bottom of the skull and enlarge it to an oval with the shears.

Drill the eye sockets so the lights just fit

Find the last 2 lights in the string and push them through the eyes from inside the skull

Put a bed of hot glue around the outside of the eye socket and push the lights in place

Stuff the rest of the lights into the skull cavity

Hot glue the battery box to the bottom of the skull so the switch and lid are accessible

Cut a small notch at the top of the hole at the rear of the skull for attachment

Do this for each skull

PREP THE LOG AND ASSEMBLE

Measure the spacing distance depending on how many skulls you have and drive a screw into each location leaving each one just high enough so a skull can be hung on it. Hang your skulls, turn them on, put it in a place where it will be noticed and enjoy the Trick or Treater’s reactions.
