SCRABBLE Ornament

IntroJPG.JPG
My dear friend had her first child this year and I wanted to make her an ornament for her  childs' first Christmas tree. Some years ago my friend and I were on a "girls" vacation at Lake Placid, New York, it was just this same time of year, winter, pre
Christmas. We stayed at a wonderful place, snow everywhere and a fireplace around every corner. In the evening we would have dinner, grab some hot cider and play scrabble. I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate a memory into her baby girls gift. The babies name is Avery but as I was setting out the letters I realized that if I put a bit of space between the A & the V,  I could incorporate a Christmas message. A Very Merry Christmas.

Another good friend saw the ornament and liked it so much that I thought it would be fun to make Christmas tree ornaments for her entire family.

Supplies

The supplies are basic as long as you have an old scrabble game
letter tiles
tile holders
glue (I use epoxy)
screw eyes (tiny)
ribbon
Also markers or metallic markers if you
want to date or write message.

Mora

I began with Mora's ornament. Select letters........
It just so happened that my friend is Spanish/Italian so everyone has lots of vowels in their
names! Mora, Joaquin, Vittorio, Aleli, Francesco and my friend, Violeta (By the time I got to Violeta I ran out of "V"s, so her ornament has a blank tile in place of the V.

Cut tile holder to represent the length of the name.

I used a gold metallic marker to add the year to the tile holder

4.JPG
I used tiny screw eyes in each end of the tile holder, The wood split a bit but when I glue the letters in place the glue will also hold the wood together.

Mix the epoxy and place on back and bottom edge of each letter tile.

Place all tiles in tile holder

when glue dries tie ribbon to create hanger for your ornament.

This is such an easy and fun way to create an in expensive, awesome, memento that can be used as a Christmas tree decoration or for what ever kind of name placement you like.
