Rustic Wooden Picture Frame

This frame design uses any scrap wood, can be easily made to fit any photograph size and is very simple to make.

• Two strips of 36" pine boards (or other wood type)
  
• Table saw
• Miter saw
• Belt sander
• Wood glue
• Clamps

• Glass cutter

Using the table saw, make a bevel cut on each length of wood to create a v-groove appearance the finished piece.

Cut two 18" side pieces from the beveled wood.

Cut the remainder into 3" pieces. For the wood I had, I got 8 pieces.

Using the table saw cut a 1/4 by 1/4 rabbet in each piece to accept the glass, matte and photograph.

Line up the 3" pieces(4 to a side) so the rabbits are face up.

Glue the four pieces of each end together and to the sides then clamp the frame in place. The glue takes 20 minutes to dry. Remove any excess glue with a flat head screwdriver or credit card or wet towel.

Sand and remove any more excess glue or splinters. Paint the frame with plain white latex paint or any other colour you choose.

Measure the inside of the rabbet and cut the glass 1/8 of an inch less than that. Cut the glass using glass cutters and ensure a square alignment.

After you place the matte and photograph inside, add the glazing points using a strong flat tool to secure it (ex. putty knife or paint scraper)

Screw in two small metal picture framer loops and string the wire through. Bring the wire back and twist it around on itself to secure it.

The wire should be tight since it will give a bit when it's hung.

Tips:

You can attach the wire without the loops by just wrapping it around screws.
