Rustic Fireplace

I had to replace the fireplace insert and so the fireplace got fairly trashed in the process. So I decided to resurface it. This is really a simple project. You'll need to reference your fireplace inset to see how close combustible materials can be to your specific insert. Total time was probably 4 hours. Cost was around $500.

Tools:

Brad nailer

Liquid Nails

Cedar boards

Table saw

Chop saw

2x4's

Pull off excess trim. You are trying to get it down to a flat surface.

Using 2x4s, give yourself some material to attach the cedar boards.

You'll first want to cut and mount the vertical side pieces. Then measure and start in the middle and work your way down. Be sure to line the interior space around the fireplace before proceeding too far.

Tape off walls and any areas you don't want stained. Then using a brush apply the stain. Note, it'll take a lot of stain as the cedar soaks in a lot of stain.

Congrats! You are done. Remember...measure twice, cut once!!!
