Run on Cycle in a Kenmore Series 90 Dryer (Electric) Made by Whirlpool

This Ible is an addition to “Replacing the Thermostat in a Kenmore Series 90 Dryer (Electric) Made by Whirlpool” https://www.instructables.com/Replacing-the-Thermostat-in-a-Kenmore-Series-90-Dr/. It is brief and specific to the run on cycle for this machine, but may apply to others.

A run on cycle is when the cycle reaches the end of a cycle but does not stop. It will run through a TIMED DRY and TOUCH UP cycle, through the OFF position, and on to the AIR DRY cycle. The controller just keeps going around the dial.

The usual cause is the PUSH TO START button is stuck in the closed position (Start). Corrosion on the contacts is most likely the cause of the run on. Especially, since the “repair” has repeatedly worked.

Just use normal pressure to press on each side of the PUSH TO START button, near its edge. Go around the button three or four times. Run the machine and check that the machine turns OFF. Repeat if necessary.

If this does not fix it, you likely need a new switch.

As promised, brief and specific,

The problem will be back in an unspecified number of years, I just run through the “repair” every so often to keep it from happening.

I did buy a spare switch years ago, just in case. But so far I have not needed it.
