Run-away Bag

Remember wanting to runaway from all your "problems" and stuffing prized possessions into a pillowcase? Well believe it or not, the thought has crossed the mind of every mom (at least once!).

Acknowledge her difficult job with a bag made from a pillowcase. It will have her thinkin' of you when she wants to escape!

Gather Materials

While this instructable uses a standard size pillowcase (21" x 32"), a king-size pillowcase (21"x 42") will provide a longer shoulder strap. An alternative is to create a pillowcase from a pretty fabric.

Pillowcase
Needle and Thread (or sewing machine)
Pins
Scissors
Marker

Mark the pillowcase diagonally and cut.

NOTE: If you want to make a run-away bag that appears finished /reversible, cut a second pillowcase the same way.

Stitch the Raw Edges

Turn the diagonal (raw) edge under approximately 1/2" and stitch the raw edge to give the appearance of a finished edge. *Next, stitch closed the original opening of the pillowcase. It will now resemble a long triangle with the opening along the diagonal. Repeat with the other half. You now have two long triangles.

NOTE: If making a run-away bag with a finished/reversible interior ...pin the pretty sides of the pillowcase together, and stitch the raw edges together at the diagonal (see pincushion). To reduce the bulk at the upper corner, trim before turning inside out. Proceed with the above* instructions.

Connect the Two Triangles

Open the diagonal and slip the short end of the triangle into the other.

Pin (or duct tape) where the two diagonals meet and stitch where the pinned sections overlap. Turn run-away bag over and repeat. Turn bag inside out and again, repeat.

Knot at Top and .....

...fill the bag with some special run-away goodies (i.e. trashy novel, bubble bath, box of wine, chocolate kisses, framed photo of yourself, etc...).

Witness your mother's joy...her escape is only moments away!
