Rugby Stocking

We have a friend coming for Christmas and I wanted to make him a stocking to hang by the chimney ...He plays rugby and I thought it might be fun to make him a stocking reminiscent of a rugby shirt.

Supplies

Cut 12 strips of red and green felt 3"X8"

alternating red and green sew 9 strips together, I placed a slight edge over the previous strip and used a zig zag stitch.

then sew three strips to the bottom edge of the 9 strip piece to create a toe.

Sew Front to Back

place the rough stocking shape on a larger piece of felt and pin it together with straight pins (I forget to mention these in my supply list, however, it makes it much easier to handle the fabric if it is pinned together)

Cut a neat stocking shape and sew front to back piece, again I used a zig zag stitch.

Fabric for Hanger

Cut a strip on the fold of the gingham, 2"X12"

sew the open edge, turn fabric and stitch neat ends.

Fold and sew into the back edge of the stocking for hanging

Pin the hanger inside the stocking to keep it out of the way while you add the trim
