Rubik's Cube Paper Weight

Long story short. I bought a cheap Rubik's cube mock up. The pieces were very thin plastic. The cube started to fall apart. My first attempt at speed cubing failed miserably, as it burst into about 2500 pieces.

Fairly basic stuff.

Take off the covers and then the screws.

Assemble Bottom

I super glued the bottom together.

Middle and Top

Assemble the rest. For the middle peice, i installed the screws again, because the cubelets do not have plastic on all 6 sides.

Added Glue

The three sections were still turning so i decided to bump it up a notch.

BUT...

I used too much...
I used like 5 tsps!

.

OH GOD ITS GROWING :O

Basically i forgot to read the part where the glue expands.

Glue came out of every corner, and my hands were covered in it (hence the lack of camera).

If you ever saw Awakenings, you would know how i looked like.

I sat there to the very end trying my hardest to hold it together, but it failed.

Covered in glue, and expanded by an extra half inch, i decided it was time to toss it.

:'(

But basically, add the plastic covers, and use a glue that dosen't expand?

Learnings?

But what was learned from this tragic episode?

  • Don't by cheap crap from the dollar store
  • Don't use massive amounts of expanding glue!

Edit: Yay I got 2 new ones today :D
