Rubber Band Racer πŸš—----πŸš•-----πŸš™-----🏁

Rubber Band Racer (3).jpg

As most of us now the Covid 19 virus has greatly impacted the world and possibly even you. School was canceled in our state for a month! The only downside is that we have to stay at home. For the last couple of days, we've been staring at screens. Call us weird but as fun as watching cartoons all day is we got bored of it a couple of days into our unexpected break. Since we don't have a lot to do at home we decided to make our own entertainment!

Introducing an original racing game brought to you by the M.A.P.S. club!

If school was also canceled for you we hope this helps~ 😊

Supplies

  • tape (duct tape)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Materials:

  • Cardboard
  • Square paper or origami paper
  • skewers
  • rubber bands

Materials (optional):

  • Markers
  • Washi Tape

Making the Wheels for the Car

Untitled drawing.jpg

Step 1: Trace 4 wheels (We used a bottle cap as a stencil)

Step 2: Cut wheels & poke holes through them (Tip⭐: poke the holes through the side you are going to stick the skewers through)

Step 3: Cut 2 straws (we cut them 4.5 cm)

Step 4: Cut 2 skewers (we cut them 9 cm)

Step 5: put 1 wheel and straw through skewer

Step 6: put other wheel through skewer, repeat for other wheel and you have wheels!!!

TIP🌟: If your wheels are to loose put clay or playdough around wheels to keep them in place

Step 5: Open up the paper again and unfold the top(purple) and bottom(green) triangles

Step 6: fold the left (yellow) and right (green) side up

Step 7: gently squish the top and bottom (Tip: Watch the video -> Paper Kawaiis Origami Masu Box at 3:47)

Step 8: Fold the top paper sticking out down and onto the red dot, repeat Step 8 to the bottom side

Making the Slingshot/Track!!!

Now it time to make the track and rubber band catapult for your cars!

Step 1: Find a rectangular desk

Step 2: make a rubber band chain (see image above)

Step 3: knot one side to one leg & the other side to the other leg

If you don't have hardwood floors we recommend using cardboard as track. To make the track tape long rectangles of cardboard together. Use markers stickers glitter to make it fun! We drew a rainbow, a bunny and of course some totoros :) (shout to any Studio Ghibli fans out there)

Make a Point System

Grab some paper and write 3 numbers of your choice. (we chose 5, 10, 100 and lined them up in that order)

And that's it! Happy racing!!!
