Round Piezo Generator Tutorial
Description
Piezoelectricity (also called the piezoelectric effect) is the appearance of an electrical potential (a voltage, in other words) across the sides of a crystal when you subject it to mechanical stress. Both support manner and vibration (mechanical) manner will affect the output generated from the piezo element.
Mechanical/Vibration Manner
- Press
- Pulse
- Shock
Specification
Instant impact can reach 30V, 5mA
Normal generation: 0-15V
Material Preparation
For this tutorial, you need to have the following items:
- Round Piezo Generator
- Crocodile Clip
- Single Core Wire
- Soldering Iron and Solder Lead
- Multimeter
Wire Connection
Steps
- Cut the single core wire intro three parts.
- Then, solder the wire at the white part as shown above.
- Repeat the same step for the other side (bottom) of the white part.
- Then, combine and twist at the end of the both wires to make it into a single wire.
- Next, solder the last wire at the brown ring area.
- Clip the crocodile clips to the multimeter.
- Finally, connect the twisted wire and the single wire to the crocodile clip that connects to the multimeter.
Types of Support Manner
Then, place the piezo generator based on the guidance above.
*For round piezo electric generator, it is suggested to use (d) type (whole perimeter) support manner.
Results
Based on the picture 1 above, it shows that the piezo generator does not produce any voltage because of there is no mechanical stress on the piezo generator.
Whereas on picture number 2, it shows that there is a voltage flow when a mechanical stress (pressure force) is being put on the piezo.
