This pattern is something I found in a "Q-Hook Afghans for the Family" crochet book. I've never tried this pattern before, so it's a learning process for me too. I hope you like it.

The Beginning...

Chain 84.

* This is the 'foundation' of your work. *

Please Note: The pattern calls for a Q hook, but I'm using an L hook because of my personal crochet style.

Row 1:

Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in next chain. Chain 1, *skip next chain, single crochet in next chain, chain 1; repeat from * across to last 3 chains, skip next chain, single crochet in last 2 chains.

That's 43 single crochets and 40 chain-1 spaces.

Row 2:

(Right side)

Chain 3, turn; work beginning star stitch, work star stitches across, work ending star stitch.

That's 42 star stitches.

*The first picture is the in-progress picture*

Beginning star stitch: Insert hook in second chain from hook, Yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook in next chain, yarn over and pull up a loop, (insert hook in next chain, yarn over and pull up a loop) two more times, insert hook in next chain-1 space, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 6 loops on hook, chain 1 to close Star stitch and form eyelet.

Star stitch: Insert hook in eyelet of last star stitch made, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook in 2 loops on left side of same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook in same space as last star stitch completed, yarn over and pull up a loop, (insert hook in next stitch or space, yarn over and pull up a loop) two more times, yarn over and draw through all 6 loops on hook, chain 1 to close star stitch and form eyelet.

Ending Star stitch: Insert hook in eyelet of last star stitch made, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook in 2 loops on left side of same stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, insert hook in same space as last star stitch completed, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Note: Loop a short piece of yarn around any stitch to mark Row 2 as right side.

The Finished Product

*I'm using the same picture from before because I'm still working on my project. Depending on your speed and the time you put into the work, it could take about a week or more to finish.*
