Robot Mower Garage in the Firewood

This is my hidden garage for my mower. The mower is protected against sun, rain and playing children.

Easy to realize, less than a day.

Supplies

Some tools out of your DIY toolbox (hammer, drill, some screws, saw, ...). Some wood for the housing.

Planning and Preparing the Place

I want to hide my mower when it is not working. My goal was not building a separate box or a garage. Additionally the place should cover the mover and protect it again sun, rain and playing children in the garden.

So I decided transforming my stack of firewood behind the house into a parking place for my mower.

Normally, the mower goes along a straight line to the charging station. The challenge is now to guide it to the charging station which is shifted a little bit to the edge of the lawn.

My mower is guided by cable and it was a little bit try and error getting the space the mower needs for driving in and out and the right way laying out the cable for guiding it straight to the contacts of the charging station.

I attached the charging station with screws on some terrace slabs and put the housing made out of square bars and some slats over it.

Lay Out the Cable

This is the solution for having enough space for driving in and out and doing the right movements getting to the charging station. All measurements in the hand written plan are in Centimeters.

Improve the Grip on the Charging Station

Normally the station stands in the lawn and the grid will be covered by blades of grass. This gives the mower enough grip climbing on the station. Therefore I filled the grid with some 3d-printed fillings. All files are attached here.

Protect the Cable on the Terrace Slabs

For protecting the cable I used fluid gum. Be careful there should be as least dust as possible on the slabs before painting.

Protecting the Lawn at Places With High Traffic

There are places in the lawn where the mower dives more often. After a while you see brown stains instead a green surface.

I printed some grids which I put in the lawn so that new grass could grow even if the mower drives over it.

All stl files are attached here.

Final Words

The mower is hidden when not working and the lawn is growing.

Great stuff!
