Rise of the Tombraider Holster
This tutorial shows how I used some nice material with cardboard to give it a leather thickness look.
The buckles were hand made with an exacerbating effort. I suggest you just buy them if you can.
If you really want to see how I made the buckles. Make a note at the end and I will add it here.
Finally, you should have a gun of some type to measure your holster case to custom fit it. The guns used for this holster was revolver and/or 45mm. I lucked out to find one for $5 at walmart with a silencer as is in the game but not what I saw at the wonder-con and comic-con or halloween contests 2016.
Cut Patterns
1) I measured the hip and compared a good size according to the hip size. I did not want it too big.
2) I cut a few patterns in a thin cardboard, I drew it free hand according to the picture in the video game "Rise of The Tomb Raider.
3) I assembled the cardboard patterns to see what it would look like. When I got what I wanted I put away all other patterns.
4) I emphasized the folds with creases. This is because I won't be able to see once I place the cardboard inside the material sleeves.
Draw or Pin Pattern Shape
First things first: fold your material inside out and in half. You want two layers laying flat.
1) I actually pinned around the cardboard about 1/2 inch all the way around.
2) I cut inside the pinned section closely to the cardboard.
3) Picture no. 2 shows a finished cut for the holster strap. One of two I have to sew.
Time to Sew
I just sewed the pieces one at a time. straps: leave one side un-sewed, hoster case: leave 1 1/2 inch at the bottom un-sewed, the holster support: leave 1 1/2 inch un-sewed at the bottom.
1) I selected one piece, set it up on the material as previously explained and sewed. After sewing I cut away, around the stitching about a 1/4 inch.
Note: you will stick the cardboard inside your sewn pattern. ensure that you align the correct side of the cardboard to the correct side of the material.
2) the two straps: after sewing, flip it right side out and slip the cardboard strips into the sleeves.
3) the holster case: after sewing, cut out, flip it right side out. roll up the cardboard pattern and shove inside. You'll have to work it open patiently. Once the cardboard inside the material starts to unroll, you must work each corner to its own side.
4) do the same for the holster support.
Putting It All Together
As you can see I cut slits on both sides of the holster support.
Shoved the strips through the front and out the back.
Turned it over to see that the holster case fits.
Everything should fit nicely or close enough to it and close enough does make the cut this time.
Remember when I said I put the cardboard pieces together to see what it would look like?
Well, it was also to ensure that everything would bend or fold in the right place after the cardboard was installed inside the material so the folds would occur automatically.
Now I hot glue the holster case straps to the inside of the holster support.
Stiching and Covering
Now I blind stitch the openings used to slip the cardboard through.
Next, measure and cut a piece of material to cover the straps end pieces inside the holster support.
Finally, I hot glue the piece of material over the ugly ends of the straps. Even though it is inside where no one saw I still wanted it to look complete.
This final step should never be a question as a step. It should be automatically known as "A must."
Take a needle sew the holster (gun) case to the holster support as shown. do the corners on both side. and the bottom of the holster as well.
Shoving the gun in and out of the holster puts stress and ware and tear on the merchandise. Be prepared and do it right so anyone can use it without breaking it.
That's It, a Nice ROTTR Holster
As you can see I customed the holster for this gun.
You can paint the gun a different color scheme.
The ice axe is an accessory I made out of cardboard and added it to the belt.
Thank you guys for being interested in my art work.
