Rey's Rebel Doll
If you are not familiar with Star Wars then you don't know about Rey and her special doll. The second picture is a real picture of the doll. I was challenged to make a doll using only stuff at my house. Now I am a pack rat and save every piece of craft material when I am making something.
Material
First I needed to find some material for the bodyof the doll. I wanted to use felt so the material would not ravel. I had a couple of pieces of burgundy Next I needed muslin, cotton stuffing, yarn and some rope. Also don't forget the needle and thread. I also used a rubber band and some dirt..
2 pieces of felt 9x12
1 piece of muslin 10x10
1 strip of muslin 1 inch x 3 feet long
14 feet of rope
6 feet of brown yarn
stuffing
1 rubber band
Pattern
I took a piece of paper and made a pattern for the body. I folded the paper so each side would match. I made the arms and legs 2 inches wide, The body is 3.5 inches wide. The total length is 12 inches. After you have your pattern now fold two pieces of felt and trace the pattern on the material. Cut out both pieces of felt and pin the two together. Now cut out a piece of muslin 10x10 and you are ready to sew.
Sewing
Lay the piece of muslin down and put a piece of stuffing about the size of a golf ball. Pull the muslin together and put a rubber band around the bottom. Now start sewing the two pieces of the body together. You don't have to be exact on the stitch size. I did a hand stitch starting at the arm and around the body. After I finished half the body I continued until I had both legs and stopped at the waist on the other side. I went ahead and stuffed the legs and part of the body. Now finish all the way until you are at the neck. Stuff the arms and the rest of the body.
Adding the Head
Punch a hole in the stuffing at the neck making room for the head. Put the head in and finish stitching across the neck. Do a couple of extra stitches to make sure the head is secure.
Finishing Touches
Cut a strip of muslin 1 inch by 3 feet. Fold it over the arm and then around the chest and across the other side. I just tried to make it match the picture. Now wrap all the rest around the body and stitch and end to the other pieces in the back. Now cut 14 feet of rope and wrap 8 feet of the rope around the waist. The last 6 feet add the brown yarn and wrap around the waist and over both shoulders.. I tied it off in the back.
Adding the Dirt
The Rey Doll looks like it is really worn so I added dirt. So the Rey Rebel Doll is complete. I hope you enjoy.
