Resurfacing the Edge of Particle Board / Melamine Board
The goal of this Ible is to show you how to finish the side of a particle board that has been cut.
Material
You will need
- edging
- hot iron
- scissors
- utility knife
- board to fix (of course)
Optional: sanding block with fine grit
Measure and Cut
Run the tape along the edge and cut to length, make sure to leave just a bit of extra.
Set and Run the Iron
You want the Iron to have steam OFF and the heat set to linen (normally the highest setting).
Once it is hot, run it along the edge. Slowly enough that it bonds properly, but you don't need to go at a snail's pace.
There will be an overhang on both sides. Do try to keep it large enough, it is toughest to remove when it is juuuuuuuuuuuust too bit go ignore.
Finish Up
Trim the excess. I find it easiest to run the blade slightly in diagonal. Try not to snag the original surface.
If this is for something where you will be up close, you can give a quick and light diagonal sanding along the edge if you feel it is necessary.
That's it!
