Is a Cricut a CNC Machine?
You may ask, "Is a Cricut a CNC machine?" I got one word for you, YES. Although you may not think it is (I sure didn't think it was...) a CNC, it very much is. If you look up on the web, "Is a Cricut a CNC machine?" this is what you will find:
A Cricut is a mini CNC machine.
Supplies
You will need the following for this project:
- Printer
- Printer Paper
- Mod Podge
- Small Junky Paint Brush
- Light Switch Plate
- Big, Clean Surface
- Exacto Knife
- Scissors
- Black Pencil
- Paper Towel
TIME: 10-15 mins, excluding drying time.
Print Your Paper
For this step, you will need to search the web for the type of design that would match your room, choose the pattern you like, and print it. I used a simple black and white leaf pattern.
Trace Your Light Switch Plate
Next, you have to place your light switch plate down on your printed paper. Trace around the outside of it with your black pencil. Then do the same in the middle of the plate, where the switch goes. Your end result should look like the picture above. Then, use your exacto knife and cut out your traced lines.
Cut the Corners
Now, you will have to cut slits, just little ones, on all corners. Just snip the ends in two. Do this in the middle as well. This will allow the paper to sit smoothly on top of the surface without getting wrinkled.
Mod Podge the Plate
With your Mod Podge and junk brush, paint the glue all over the outside of the light plate. It's ok to be messy with this step.
Place Your Paper and Glue
Once you've finished that last step, place your paper over the plate. Be sure to get all of the air bubbles and wrinkles out so it is more smooth. Don't worry about covering the holes that you put the screws into, either. You will easily be able to punch the screws through the paper when you install. Fold any excess paper behind the plate and glue it down. Once these steps are completed, ADD MORE MOD PODGE! Don't be afraid to use a lot of glue.
Wipe the Plate Down
Next, you have to take your paper towel and wipe off the glue. Doing this will leave just enough glue on there that the switch won't look like paper. Try not to use your finger because it will stick to the paper and tear it.
Now, You Wait
Now, you wait for it to dry. It should only take about 10 minutes.
Put It Back Up... and Your Done!
Once it's dry, all you do is hang the light switch plate back up! I hope this was fun and easy for you and looks great in your house!! Please comment if you need further instructions! Don't forget to <3 and vote!!!
