Repurpose Bottles for Salt and Pepper Shakers
Instead of recycling these old bottles I decided I wanted to do something with them. I ended up wanting to turn them into a matching salt and pepper shaker set. They turned out great and are very sleek and will add a little style to your kitchen!
Supplies
The materials I used for this project were:
- Old glass bottles
- Soap and water
- 3D printer and filament
- Tinkercad
- And of course, salt and pepper
The first step is to grab a pair of glass bottles that you haven't had the chance to recycle yet or you can go out and purchase some. After you have done that, you will want to wash them out with warm water and some soap.
Next, use a CAD software such as Tinkercad and model up the cap for the bottle. In Tinkercad I searched for bottle cap in the search bar and found a preset model. I then adjusted the model to the right dimensions for the radius since they were not the same as the bottles I had. I then copy and pasted holes through the top of the cap so the salt and pepper could come out through it. I then saved the file as an STL and use Ultimaker Cura slicing software to write the code for my 3D printer to use. I used an Ender 3 Pro 3D printer, but any 3D printer will work. I then started printing out my bottle cap. I just used the standard settings on my printer and the cap turned out great.
The final step is to add salt and pepper into your bottles and screw on the bottle caps. Now enjoy cooking with your "new" sleek salt and pepper shakers!
