The first step is to remove the corner plastic kick plate from under the drivers side of the dash. This can be popped off with a flat screwdriver. It should be noted that some models of Honda CIVIC's and Honda CR-V's have 2 plastic push pins holding this corner kick plate on. These have to be popped off from behind with a long screwdriver, as the corner kick plate is being pried off.

Trim Plastic Covering on End of Cable.

Now it is necessary to trim off about 1" of the plastic that is molded to the outer end of the cable. This can be done by nibbling at the plastic with a pair of cutting pliers. A small amount of heat from a lighter will help to soften the plastic. However this can cause a fire hazard and is not absolutely necessary. With a little patience and a sharp pair of wire cutters, the plastic can be trimmed off in 3 or 4 minutes.
