Replacement Car Key

My car key broke…I’ll just make a new one…and save some money!

A broken car key, or a car key you want to convert.

A small piece of wood…preferably hard wood, I used walnut.

5 minute Epoxy.

A coping saw, hand or power.

220 grit sandpaper.

A drill press or hand drill.

Clear spray paint, not pictured.

Trace out your key on the wood.

carefully cut out your shapes. Use a coping saw.

Drill a hole in the internal shape, take apart the saw blade and put it together inside the shape so you can cut it out.

Use sand paper to finish the holes…you want all parts to stay on place with a bit of pressure.

Place the key portion in place and epoxy. Use masking tape to hold the epoxy in place as it dries.

Place the remote part in after the epoxy is dry, you want to be able to remove it to replace the battery.

Finish sanding, then mask off the key part and use clear spray paint to finish the wood parts.

You are done, you now have a great, unique car key!
