Replace the Battery on a Garage Opener
In this Instructable, I will show you how to replace the battery on a garage door remote. This particular one is a sort of universal remote with 4 channels that quite often is used with other appliances as well.
The battery type used in it is a 27A 12V battery.
The entire process is fast and can be done even if you don't have any experience with electronics.
Supplies
27A 12V Battery - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_d7uCyzL
Precision screwdriver - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_dYdx8Tf
Round brush - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_d7kFgyp
Open the Case
To open the case, all you need is a small screwdriver to undo the three screws that are on the back.
After they are removed, you can lift the back cover from the remote and that will expose the insides.
Clean the Inside
Once I had it open, I saw that there is a lot of dust gathered inside so I used a round paintbrush to scrape it and clean all of the insides.
Make sure to use gentle pressure on the brush and be very careful on the circuit board. Also, make sure to cover both sides of all of the pieces so in the end the remote can look as new.
Install the New Battery
The battery is a relatively common one and I did find it in my local hardware shop.
When installing, make sure to install it in the right orientation with the negative side of the spring contact.
Failing to do so may result in permanent damage to the remote so be very careful.
To be sure that the placement is correct, press one of the buttons and the onboard LED should light up.
Close the Case Together
To close it all up we follow the same procedure as for opening but in reverse, where we now add the circuit board to the rubber sleeve and then place them both in the case.
Once they sit nicely inside, we can add the back cover and secure the entire remote with the three screws.
Enjoy!
As a final step, you can test the remote to make sure that it works and call it a success!
